Syahdan Walking Experience: Republic Polytechnic Singapore X Interior Design Department Binus University Jakarta

Interior Design Department together with Republic Polytechnic Singapore (RP) has a joint collaboration on one day workshop in BINUS Univerisity Jakarta on 7th October 2025. 24 students from Republic Polytechnic Singapore attended the workshop accompanied by their lecturers, Mr. Mustafa Mohamed and Mr. Christopher Tapia. During the visitation, Republic Polytechnic group of students and lecturers were having an attractive workshop tittled “Syahdan Alley: Walking Experience and Design Jam Session“, which raised the sustainability related issue in daily life. The workshop held in Anggrek Campus, invited 6 groups of mixed student — 4 students from RP and 2 until 3 students from Interior Design Department BINUS University Jakarta were collided in a group. They have to facing challanges to find a problem happened along the alleys between Anggrek Campus and Syahdan Campus. To capture the current condition, all of the students were accompanied by designated usher to get to know daily acitivities occured within the alleys. The RP students were invited to stroll around the alleys guided by a map and cardboard frame. The map showed the landmark, wayfinding, and other markers to get rid of the intricate paths of the alleys. During the walking experience, they met shoe repair shop, cafes, food stalls, and any other interesting issues. The walking tour starts at 8.30 am and completed at 09.30 am. After finishing the observation, all the groups were going back to the class in Anggrek Campus and started the design jam session. Every group has solemn discussion, facilitated by BINUS Interior Design Lecturers; Christianto Roesli S.Sn., M.Ds, Amarena Nediari S.Sn., M.Ds, and Ulli Aulia Ruki S.Sn., M.Sc. At the end of the design jam session, all of the group presented their ideas and provided a solution. The workshop wrapped up at 2 p.m and ended by taking photo together. In addition, RP and BINUS representatives, lecturers and students were having gift exchange, which leaving a memorable yet sweet closure to the joint workshop.
