DF 4: Hotel Furniture Design – Maverick Chair & Lamp (Natascha Maria O.)
The design of this furniture and accessories embraces a creative, dynamic, and exploratory concept that aligns with the character of Hotel 25hours The Oddbird Jakarta. Both pieces are conceived as functional yet expressive elements, employing a bold design approach that experiments with unique forms and strong visual compositions. The chair and lamp not only support user activities but also serve as design statements that enhance the spatial identity and interior character of the hotel. This concept is expressed through sculptural, asymmetrical curves, where the chair features a bold circular backrest combined with flowing arm and structural elements, creating a playful yet strong visual identity, while the lamp adopts a similarly expressive curved form.
The material selection combines glossy metal, textured fabric, and wood accents to create a balanced modern aesthetic. Metal provides structural strength and an industrial character, while the fabric seat adds comfort and visual softness, and wood introduces a subtle natural contrast. The intended color palette consists of black, navy blue, maroon, and teal green to reflect a creative and dynamic identity; however, due to material limitations, maroon was substituted with magenta, resulting in a slightly brighter yet still expressive visual outcome. Supported by a bent metal pipe structure with seamless connections, the design ensures both stability and visual continuity, while its proportions are intended for short-term seating, suitable for use as an accent chair in a lobby setting.
